Ways to Protect Yourself from Sun Spots

Melanin pigment gives color to the skin. When this pigment concentrates in specific areas, it causes dark spots on the skin. Skin spots, which can result from being congenital or from environmental factors such as harmful sun rays, can make individuals quite unhappy from an aesthetic perspective. Spot problems can be prevented and even improved through proper and regular skin care practices combined with certain preventive measures.

The sun is a complete source of Vitamin D. Vitamin D, which regulates the absorption of calcium and phosphorus, strengthens bones, and provides protection against diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and osteoporosis, can be supplemented from foods, but the body obtains more than 90% of its needs from the sun. This is why Vitamin D is also called the sunshine vitamin. On the other hand, excessive sun exposure of the skin can lead to various dermatological problems. The progressive thinning of the ozone layer has made sunlight a harmful factor for the skin not only in summer months but also in winter. For this reason, taking extra precautions against the harmful effects of the sun is of great importance for skin health.

Sun exposure should be avoided during certain hours.

The first and most important rule is to prevent exposure. During the 11:00-16:00 time period when sun rays hit the earth at a more perpendicular angle, one should avoid going outside as much as possible. Sunscreen must be used. It should not be forgotten that a large portion of UV rays can penetrate even through clouds. For the synthesis of Vitamin D, which is a vital necessity, healthy sun exposure should be preferred.

Care must be taken when choosing sunscreen.

Sun exposure can cause spotting, burns, damage, and color irregularities on the skin. The most critical precaution that can be taken against such problems is using sunscreen. It is especially important for individuals with sensitive skin types to carry sunscreen with them during hot summer days.

Many sunscreen products are available in pharmacies and cosmetics stores. Since these products come into direct contact with the skin, the substances they contain should be considered. It is recommended to use unscented, fragrance-free, low-chemical, and Health Ministry-approved medical sunscreens.

Sunscreens should be applied at least half an hour before sun exposure and reapplied every 2-3 hours. To maintain healthy sun protection, creams with at least SPF 30 protection factor should be used during summer months. Individuals with sensitive skin types are advised to choose creams with SPF 50 or higher protection factors. It is very important for people to understand their own skin types and use appropriate products.

Appropriate clothing should be worn.

Instead of dark-colored black clothing that absorbs light, light-colored white clothing that reflects light should be worn. Attention to these color rules will provide an SPF 15 protection factor effect on the skin. At the same time, wearing a wide-brimmed hat will help protect the face, ears, and neck areas that are most exposed to the sun.

Getting Rid of Skin Spots Without Surgery

Laser: It is one of the most preferred methods. Thanks to the energy of laser light, skin spots visibly decrease. Additionally, signs of aging are eliminated, and acne and pimple scars are repaired.

Peeling: A superficial skin exfoliation procedure performed on skin damaged and dulled by environmental factors. Peeling reduces the number of melanin cells, allowing spots to lighten. At the same time, it brings brightness and vitality to the skin.

Mesotherapy & PRP: These two methods, which enable the restructuring of subcutaneous tissues, help eliminate spots. They make the skin appear much brighter and tighter. There are no side effects.
